I am a 10 year old sheltie and I have been to three different homes before I found the perfect owner to take care of me. I was abused and neglected by my previous owners.
I was rescued from an animal shelter because my owner didn’t want me anymore. I felt lonely, and felt like no one would ever want me. When I arrived at my new home I was aloof toward my owners and I would hide in the far corners of the living room. If we had animal rights then we wouldn’t be neglected or left without any food, water or love.
Now onto the subject of the food we eat. I don’t know about other dogs, but my owner and I are going to have a serious problem if I find out that there are chicken by-products in my food. I will go on a hunger strike until I get the real meat, not chicken carcass and internal organs from the remains of an animal. All dogs should have the right to eat human food, such as Pizza, ham, chicken, turkey, and other delicious human foods that dogs are “not supposed to eat.” It is our right as living organism to be able to eat whatever the woof we want just as humans do. If we want to go to Burger King and have a Whopper with a small side of fries and diet coke, then we should have the right to do so.
Dogs should have the right to walk into stores or restaurants with their owners, it’s not like we’re going to pee everywhere we walk and if we do then I am sure a store employee can clean it up because our owners do it for us. Besides we were trained as puppies to take care of our business outside, so there shouldn’t be any problems with us coming into stores and restaurants. Also why not let us ride in the carts at stores? We should be allowed to go for a ride in the carts when we get tired from walking in the store. It isn’t like we are going to contaminate the food or spread doggy germs on the carts.
Doggies such as me shouldn’t be yelled at for chewing on our owners shoes because they train us by giving us chew toys. I think that the world should be our chew toy. If I decide to redecorate the house I should be allowed to scratch the furniture, tear down the curtains to bring some natural light into my home and be allowed to drag my muddy paw prints all over the kitchen floor because it is doggy art. Also we should have the right to chase squirrels and bunny rabbits.
All we really ask of our owners is to take care of us, giving us things that we need like food or water, taking us for walks on a regular basis, taking us to the vet to make sure that we are alright, and maintaining our coats by taking us to get groomed. Many dogs like me have been abused, neglected, and less fortunate at finding a home that treats them the way that they should be treated. Luckily I was able to find a home that provided me with what was necessary and I don’t ask for much more. In all seriousness, all dogs should have animal rights just not to the extremes. We are not humans and don’t want to be treated like humans, we just want to be loved and taken care of by our owners.

Hi everyone! My name is Jess.
I have many talents, my favorite is easy to guess.
reading is fun,
but writing is the hobby that's number one.
expressing visions and sights to see
and emotions, I've experienced that have lead me to be
stronger and independent,
wiser and free,
more expressive than I used to be.
I write about fears
though I'm rarely scared.
I write about fallen tears
as I let out the sadness, my make up tends to smear
I write about love, but don't we all?
everyone dreams of that person we adore
that never fails to strike us in awe.
I write short stories that may exercise your imagination
and poems that you can relate to through visualization.
I even write plays
that have a modern tone, but a touch of the olden days.
for me it gives me the chance to share
with each and every creative person, any where and every where.

Nice short story. Reminds of my dog which had gone through two previous owners and was abused/neglected by one of them. I love your use of words such as they should “be able to eat whatever the woof we want”.
This is pretty cool. Makes me think of an animal rights story a little
Yea I wanted to leave my audience thinking about the perspective of an animal and if they feel they should have animal rights and of course animals would want rights, but not the same rights as humans because they don’t think like humans. Animals don’t tend to worry about what’s in their food or where they are going they just want to be loved and treated with respect. Many animal rights activist want animals to have total animal liberation. this would mean that people like me that own pets would no longer be allowed to have animals and animals would be allowed to roam wherever they want to. I have nothing against animal rights activists because I am all for keeping animals safe, but I really don’t understand why they would try and take away our right to own animals. Not all humans abuse or neglect there pets! Thanks for reading my story. I am glad that you liked it!
I love this doggy story. I wish I could read it to my dog. My dog Buddy has a serious attitude and is very much a diva dog so he would love this. He feels very entitled as he should be! Very good writing Jessica!
Yea my dog Lucy, which looks a lot like the dog in the picture is very sassy, but she is so cute and really funny. She has the best doggy personality and she acts like a puppy even though she is really ten years old. I had to write this story in her perspective because I thought it would be an interesting story told in an animals perspective, especially considering dogs don’t have the ability to speak for themselves or any other animal for that matter. Thanks, I am glad you liked my story.
P.S. I really enjoy reading your poems they are beyond great and I can sense your passion for writing through your poetry. I still have to read some of your most recent ones…keep the amazing poems coming! 🙂
